TOMMY WALKER CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF ORIGINAL RELEASE OF HIS #1 WORSHIP SONG,
“HE KNOWS MY NAME,”
WITH NEW RECORDING OF TRACK
Walker Collaborates With Award Winning Producer Ed Cash
(Nashville, Tenn.) May 5, 2009 – In celebration of the original release of Maranatha! Music singer-songwriter and passionate worship leader Tommy Walker’s #1 song, “He Knows My Name” in 1997, a new version of the track is now available. Tommy collaborated with Dove Award-winning producer Ed Cash on the recording, which serves as an emotion-stirring anthem, proclaiming that no one is forgotten by God.
“In 1997, I met a 7 year-old orphan in the Philippines named Jerry,” explains Walker. “Every day he would ask, ‘Tommy, what is my name?’ Not many people on this earth knew this abandoned, extremely poor boy’s name. I was able to tell him and his other orphaned friends that someone much greater than I did.”
Working once again with producer Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman,Caedmon’s Call) who teamed up with Walker on his 2008 release I Have A Hope, he adds new sentiment to this orphan’s prayer by using children’s voices on the new bridge of the song.
“I recorded this version of ‘He Knows My Name’ with children’s voices on the new bridge because it echoes the sound of Jerry and the millions of forgotten children in the world who are not forgotten by God! The song serves as a prayer for the abandoned, nameless, friendless and forgotten to say, ‘HE knows my name.’ There is nothing more powerful than to know and declare that the God of heaven knows us and loves us.”
After his first trip to the Philippines in 1997, God gave Walker a deep desire to serve the forgotten children of the world. “I believe an education is a meaningful way to stop the cycle of poverty that’s gripped many of their families for generations. In doing this we can help them fulfill the calling God has on their lives.”
Last August, Walker made a return journey to the Philippines, leading a team of 15 people to spread the love of Christ by bringing education and compassion to those in need. There are now over sixty “Break Through Scholars” in both public and private schools, and college. Donations can be made online by visiting www.tommywalker.net/scholars/index.html.
Tommy Walker has been serving in a worship leader role for over 15 years alongside some of the most renowned church leaders in the world including Jack Hayford, Bill Hybels, Franklin Graham, Rick Warren, and Greg Laurie. Out of his eight live recordings to date, in addition to the classic anthem, “He Knows My Name,” Walker has created staple songs for the church including “No Greater Love,” “Mourning Into Dancing,” “That’s Why We Praise Him.” He has also lead worship teams to the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Guatemala, Zambia, Brazil and Jerusalem.
Walker released his first-ever national studio recording, I Have A Hope, on Maranatha! Music last March. With 10 songs including the soaring anthem “Hallelujah, We Will Sing,” the song of yearning “Do It Lord”, and the debut single and title track “I Have A Hope,” the overall album is a captivating worship experience. Both Christianity Today and Worship Leader magazine named I Have A Hope as one of the best worship albums of 2008.
